Back at E3 2015 Oculus VR announced that Xbox One owners would be able to stream their console titles into a virtual reality (VR) cinema using a Windows 10 PC. The virtual theatre concept has a lot of potential to bring 2D content to VR and, today, Oculus VR is taking the next step. The company has announced Oculus Arcade, a new experience for its Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD) that will see several classic experiences come to the device.
Oculus VR’s Head of Mobile Max Cohen confirmed that tile at the Oculus Connect 2 developer conference in Hollywood, California. The company has partnered with Sega, Warner Brothers, Midway and Bandai Namco, bringing titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man to VR by displaying them inside virtual arcade cabinet.
It wasn’t confirmed when this experience would be launching but it will of course be available on the new Gear VR which was also announced today and will be releasing in November 2015.
