Just released for Samsung Gear VR users is short story called Sherlock Holmes – The Wagner Ritual that has been created for virtual reality (VR) using 360 degree imagery and voice dialogue.
Created by indie developer Ateo, for the Gear VR Jam, Sherlock Holmes – The Wagner Ritual is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventure of Musgrave Ritual. Janina Woods from Ateo explains: “The experience is designed especially for users new to VR. It is set at a slow pace, allowing users to get familiar with the concept of VR. Through the photo composition, dialogue and 3D audio, it makes them explore the world in all directions. The experience is aimed at all users, who are not mainly interested in games, but still want to see the wonders of VR. It is also a chance to introduce people to VR, who haven’t been interested before, but are attracted by the Sherlock Holmes content.”
Players accompany Sherlock Holmes through the murder/mystery case. Whilst playing, a memory room is available to provide players an insight into the detectives mind, aiding immersion into the story.
The app is currently free and available to download now. VRFocus will continue to report on any further updates and VR projects announced by Ateo in the future.
