This week’s IFA 2015 event, taking place in Berlin, has kicked-off with less of a concern for virtual reality (VR) than last year. While 2014’s event was pre-empted by the announcement of the Samsung and Oculus collaboration on Gear VR, no comparable announcements have yet been made this year. However, that hasn’t stopped Samsung showing off their VR prowess at the event.
Thanks to a continuing partnership with car manufacturer BMW, Samsung will be showcasing a number of connected-car technologies at IFA 2015. These include the electric i3 vehicle with built-in smart technology solutions, such as direct communication with smartphones and smartwatches, but also a virtual test drive of the vehicle available without ever leaving Samsung’s event booth.
Using the Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD), attendees of IFA 2015 will be able to test drive the BMW i3 on the show floor. Whether or not this experience will later be released to consumers not at the event is not yet known, however VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest on VR projects from Samsung and their partners.
