Almost any car fan will have watched the BBC’s motoring show Top Gear at some point. The TV show was not only one of the most popular programmes in the UK but also across the world, spawning several imitators. And one of the most iconic figures to come out of the show was the ‘tame racing driver’ Stig, who at one point was Ben Collins. Now the Telegraph newspaper has recorded a 360 degree virtual reality (VR) video of Collins racing round a top secret track.
Collins in a BMW 640M, is racing on Millbrook proving ground. A track that a lot of manufacturers use to test pre-production cars for aspects like handling. The 360 degree VR video can be viewed via a compatible browser and controlled with a mouse or the WASD keys, it can also be viewed on a smartphone with the YouTube app for the 360 degree experience. If you own a Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) you can view the video through the YouTube app for a more immersive experience.
Creating 360 degree videos for promotions is becoming far more popular as VR technology progresses, and it means more content is available everyday for consumers to enjoy. VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest VR news and releases and report back.
