The Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) has had a lot of new announcements, new experiences, the consumer version reveal and Netflix compatibility. Also revealed at today’s keynote speech at Oculus Connect 2 by Max Cohen, Head of Oculus Mobile, is the news that Oculus VR has partnered with Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox to deliver blockbuster content to the headset.
With this partnership Oculus VR will be able to bring big movie releases such as Alien, Pulp Fiction, the X-Men series and many more to the HMD. With mainstream media going to be so readily available for the device, it could open the prospect for many more consumers to pick one up. The only issue is, how many consumers actually want to watch a 2 hour movie on a device strapped to their head? The directors cut of Avatar may prove a little too much.
VRFocus will continue to report on all the latest developments for the Gear VR HMD as they’re announced.
