There are a handful of virtual reality (VR) experiences that take players to the bottom of the ocean. As 2007’s Bioshock proved, there are few more immersive settings that videogames can travel to, and VR increases the incredible atmosphere that these titles can provide by tenfold. Narcosis is one of the VR experiences leading the charge in this regard, tasking players with surviving as they explore a ruined research underwater research facility. VRFocus recently spoke to the studio’s Edwin Maynard about the project.
In the interview below Maynard talks about the tone that developer Honor Code is aiming for with Narcosis, and how VR helps it achieve that goal. There’s also talk of it the title will end up on head-mounted displays (HMDs) outside of the Oculus Rift, which it’s already been confirmed for, and possible support for input solutions such as Oculus Touch.
