Samsung’s Gear VR mobile virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) has now been with us for over a year. The Innovator’s Edition of the kit, which is created in partnership with Oculus VR, was first revealed in early September 2014, with a host of compatible videogames announced for it. One such title was Land’s End, a brand new puzzle-based experience from ustwogames, developer of the award-winning Monument Valley. It’s been a quiet year for the title since that first reveal but, today, the studio has confirmed a release date for Land’s End and revealed a new trailer.
As revealed in the footage below, Land’s End will be releasing for Gear VR next month, though an accompanying tweet has narrowed that down even further to 30th October 2015. Over a minute of gameplay footage is on display, showcasing the videogame’s impressive island environment in which players will discover some supernatural objects. The story sees players journey through this environment in order to ‘awaken a lost civilization’.
The Gear VR itself will have a brand new, consumer-ready model released before the end of the year. VR fans previously expected Samsung to reveal the device at its August Unpacked press conference, but the kit wasn’t even mentioned at the show. As such, it’s now thought that a reveal could be made at this week’s Oculus Connect developer conference in Hollywood, California. Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe will be hosting a keynote talk on 24th September that promises updates on Gear VR as well as the company’s other HMD, the Oculus Rift.
Could Land’s End‘s own release date hint at when VR fans will see the release of the consumer Gear VR? VRFocus will continue to follow both the upcoming title and the new kit, reporting back with the latest on them.
