Leap Motion’s 2015 3D Jam has opened up submissions for developers from around the world to compete for over $75,000 USD in cash and prizes. The competition pits developers against each other to create innovative, brand new experiences for virtual reality (VR), desktop, mobile and more.
Since the competition was announced over 1300 developers have already signed up and those that haven’t can still do so. Last years 3D game jam saw 150 complete experiences submitted. VR dominated the competition with 14 out of the top 20, and all three finalist spots were VR.
Due to the popularity of VR and augmented reality (AR), this years competition will be split into two categories, VR/AR and Open. The AR/VR category covers experiences built on tethered head-mounted display’s (HMDs) like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. While the Open track covers desktop, hardware hacks, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Alongside $50,000 USD in cash prizes, developers will also be competing for 9 Unity Pro Licenses, 2 Unity Suites, 6 OSVR Hacker Dev Kits and 6 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Graphics cards.
Submissions are open for the next six weeks, with the deadline being November 9th at 11:59:59 pm PST. For further details on the competition go to Leap Motions Blog.
