Jaunt and ABC Team Up to Release Inside Syria VR Video

The ongoing crisis in Syria has already been explored using virtual reality (VR) technology. VRSE’s award-winning short film, Clouds Over Sidra, gave a glimpse at the lives of Syrian refugees and was even used to the UN as a means of raising awareness of the situation. Today sees the reveal that looks at an entirely different angle of crisis. Cinematic VR company Jaunt has teamed up with ABC News to release a new 360 degree movie named Inside Syria VR.

The short video allows viewers to put on a Google Cardboard mobile head-mounted display (HMD) and find themselves in the city of Damascus. Here they will follow ABC News’ Alexander Marquardt has he charts archaeologist’s struggles to protect some of the precious antiquities in the city that face the threat of war. As with Jaunt’s other work, which includes performances from Jack White and Sir Paul McCartney, viewers can look around this content as if they were really there.

The piece is available for free over on the Android operating system (OS) and also as part of the Jaunt VR app on iOS.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest releases from Jaunt, reporting back with any further updates from the company.
