IMVU Announces Hack with Me an Avatar-Based Hackathon

IMVU an avatar-based social network, has announced today a social experience hackathon called Hack with Me. The Hack With Me event will look to encourage small teams of the world’s top developers, designers, and entrepreneurs to unlock IMVU’s customizable avatars and develop web, mobile, and virtual reality (VR) apps in Unity.

Unlike other hackathon events which gather developers together in a single space for a day or weekend, the Hack With Me competition features a four-week virtual hackathon. Hosted by IMVU and sponsored by Unity Technologies, The Lean Startup, Carnegie Mellon University – Entertainment Technology Center, Microsoft, Supersonic, and Amazon, developers will be using IMVU’s new API for the Unity game engine.

“We encourage developers from around the world to participate in our Hack With Me competition to develop the next generation of social media, powered by IMVU avatars,” says Stewart Bonn, SVP of Product at IMVU in a statement. “Social virtual reality will be the most powerful way to connect with others in a more expressive and meaningful way and we’re looking forward to the innovative experiences that are created through Hack With Me.”

Beginning on 23rd September 2015 and running though 16th October 2015, the winning teams will be selected by the judging panel on 22nd October. The winner will receive $10,000 USD in addition to the following prizes: Unity licenses, Amazon Fire TV, Google Cardboard and Lean Startup Conference pass.
