Harmonix Music VR began life as a mobile virtual reality (VR) experience designed for Samsung and Oculus VR’s Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD). Somewhere along the way it seems to have changed course however, no heading to the PlayStation 4’s own VR device. Following the announcement that Sony Computer Entertainment’s HMD would officially be named PlayStation VR, a number of animated GIF images have been revealed showcasing Harmonix Music VR in action.
With Harmonix Music VR, players are immersed in a VR version of a music visualiser. Using Harmonix’s internally-developed song analysis algorithm, Harmonix Music VR breaks a song it into sections and identifies specific drum hits to drive visual and environmental transformations. The effect is very different to the original Gear VR version of the videogame, known as HMX Music VR, and can be witnessed in the images available below.
No further details are available on Harmonix Music VR at this time, including whether or not Harmonix intend to launch the experience alongside the PlayStation VR HMD next year. VRFocus will of course keep you updated with all the latest details from Harmonix.
