GoPro 360 Degree Odyssey Camera Program Launches

Announced today in partnership with Google, GoPro is launching a limited access program for its 360 degree immersive virtual reality (VR) camera Odyssey. Professional VR content creators can now apply to participate and purchase the camera rig which will then be delivered later this year.

The Odyssey rig is made up of 16 GoPro Hero4 Black cameras, and is designed for Google’s 3D, 360-degree VR platform, Jump. The camera array includes features such as genlock camera synchronization, multi-camera control and extended battery life to help make it as hassle as possible for content creators to make immersive films.

“Virtual reality is a promising new innovation with incredible potential for commercial and artistic applications. With Odyssey and Jump, GoPro is encouraging content creators to pioneer the new technology – to capture, edit and share immersive content,” said Tony Bates, president of GoPro in a statement. “We already know that GoPro users are some of the most talented content creators in the world, so we can’t wait to see how the professional community will use Odyssey to capture life’s most memorable moments in a whole new way.”

Those interested can sign up now at GoPro.com/Odyssey, but there is only going to be a limited quantity of Odyssey’s made. The deal is offered at $15,000 USD and will include: 16 HERO4 Black cameras, fully loaded with custom firmware, 16 array bacpacs with syncing cables, custom-built ultra-rugged Pelican case, microphone, warranty and support.
