The 33rd annual Golden Joystick Awards are almost here, but before they can happen the nominations have been laid out for the public to vote on. Out of the 24 available categories 21 are open to the public, and 9 million votes were received for last years awards. This titles which either support virtual reality (VR) for built from the ground up for VR have made their way in.
The Golden Joystick Awards cover the entire spectrum of videogames and are seen as one of the major award events in the gaming calendar. Whilst there isn’t expected to be a great deal of VR nominations included this year, titles like Elite Dangerous from developer Frontier Developments, support the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and has received four nominations. It has been nominated in the Best Audio, Best Gaming Moment, Studio Of the Year and PC Game of the Year categories.
Also featuring is studio Creative Assembly’s, Alien: Isolation which had a VR demo made for the Oculus Rift HMD. Alien: Isolation is currently nominated in the Best Audio, Best Visual Design, Studio Of the Year and PC Game of the Year categories.
Specifically for VR though, is the Project Morpheus London Heist demo, featuring in the Innovation of the Year category for Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) from its London Studios.
Lastly, and not specifically for VR but one of the most vocal proponents of the technology is Shuhei Yoshida, SCE’s Head of Worldwide Studios, who is up for Gaming Personality Of The Year.
