Ethan Carter Dev Commits to ‘100% Support’ for VR

Yesterday saw the launch of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux, a second edition of the popular adventure title from The Astronauts. This new edition brought a ‘prototype’ virtual reality (VR) experience alongside it, which Creative Director, Adrian Chmielarz, has since stated will be improved upon.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux is an Unreal Engine 4 update of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, offered free to owners of the original title. Both versions of the videogame are identical in terms of story and gameplay, however a new save system has been added in addition to support for VR head-mounted displays (HMDs). However, since the launch of this new edition Chmielarz has been vocal on Twitter about his views on the VR experience The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux currently offers.

In a response to Twitter user fenderf4i, who describes himself as a ‘VR enthusiast’, Chmielarz stated: “That VR support shouldn’t have been there in the first place, don’t want a half-baked thing.”

Furthermore, Chmielarz confirms that The Astronauts are planning to continue work on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux and it’s support for VR HMDs: “Proper 100% support coming Q1 2016.”

The Astronauts confirmed that ‘official VR support’ for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter would be coming earlier this year, however the launch of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux came sooner than many were expecting. VRFocus will continue to keep you updated with the VR support in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and future titles from The Astronauts.
