Earlier this year Crysis developer and CryENGINE creator Crytek revealed that it was working on a brand new intellectual property (IP) for virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) named Crytek’s Robinson: The Journey. Little was revealed about the title at the time, though it seems to be built off of the foundation that Crytek has laid with its 2 earlier VR tech demos, Back to Dinosaur Island and its sequel. Today, the company has finally revealed more about the experience.
Crytek has detailed Crytek’s Robinson: The Journey further at the Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) Paris Games Week conference in France. As fans already knew, the title casts players as a young boy named Robin that crashes onto a mysterious planet. They will then explore this uncharted environment, interacting with the ecosystem and discovering other secrets. The trailer showcases a first-person experience with an AI companion.
While its appearance at the show confirms that it will be coming to the PlayStation VR, it’s not yet clear if it could also arrive on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in the future.
VRFocus will continue to follow Crytek’s Robinson: The Journey closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
