Everyone was looking forward to Oculus VR’s main keynote from CEO Brendan Iribe at Oculus Connect 2 today. And there was good reason for that: the company announced a consumer Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD) along with several new videogames and updates for the Oculus Rift PC-based HMD. In fact, the talk was largely videogame-focused throughout, bar some Gear VR movie announcements. Despite this, Oculus VR CTO John Carmack has stated that he expects games to be ‘somewhat less than half’ of the VR industry overall.
The legendary videogame developer said as much during his own keynote talk at Oculus Connect 2, noting that content was what he had been focused on for the past year. Despite his comments, Carmack placed heavy emphasis on VR titles during his talk, giving out development hints and more. Of course, VR has applications far beyond videogames, including movies, education and much more.
VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus VR’s work in VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates from the company.
