VRcade to Showcase Wireless, Full-Motion VR at VRLA

The Virtual Reality Los Angeles (VRLA) Summer Expo is set to take place this week on 29th August 2015 at the LA Convention Center. The event is shaping up to be a big one, with developers such as Otherworld Interactive teasing new reveals and anticipated VR experiences such as World War Toons getting fresh showcases. Another company set to join the event is VRstudios or, more specifically, its entertainment and gaming division, VRcade. The Seattle-based group will be showcasing its own VR tech at the show with some new additions.

VRcade’s own head-mounted display (HMD) is wireless and supports full body tracking that allows users to walk around a real world environment and have those movements replicated in-game using an array of motion capture cameras. New for the VRLA showcase is multiplayer support, allowing players to walk around an area of 30 feet by 30 feet in a new experience named Barking Irons.

This Wild West-themed experience features several modes. The first, ‘Duel’, sees players take part in classic western shootouts. Upon instruction, players draw their weapon as fast as possible and attempt to shoot the enemy before they get hit themselves. Though standing a few feet apart in the real world, in VR each player will see the other much further apart. The other mode, ‘Barrels’ has players shoot barrels as quickly and efficiently as possible in a contest with the other player.

“We are excited to add multiplayer capabilities to our entertainment deployments,” said Jamie Kelly, VRstudios’ President. “Now, even in small systems, proprietors can enable higher throughput allowing players to experience a unique, out-of-home virtual reality cooperation and competition.”

VRcade will also be showcasing one of its original titles, Time Zombies, at the event. VRFocus will continue to follow VRcade’s progress closely, reporting back with any further updates on the tech.
