Last week saw indie developer Cloudhead Games lift the lid on its anticipated virtual reality (VR) adventure videogame, The Gallery: Six Elements. The studio confirmed that it would be splitting the title into 4 separate episodes that would first be arriving on the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) and then the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus kits later on. Today, Cloudhead Games is revealing a fresh look at the first of these episodes, The Gallery: Call of the Starseed, which will be on display at PAX Prime next week in Seattle, Washington.
A brief trailer for the title can be seen below, hinting at the title’s plot and giving a good look at how players will utilise the HTC Vive’s position-tracked controllers. Players are cast as Alex who searches for his missing sister, Elsie, by following her footsteps into both realistic and fantasy environments. The title is coming to next week’s expo from 27th – 31st August with the help of Intel, HTC, Nvidia and Maingear, taking up the Portland Room of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which itself is located across from the Washington State Convention Center in which PAX is held.
It’s here that the world will be able to sample Cloudhead Games’ new navigation system, ‘Blink’, for the first time. This unique locomotion technology essentially combines the HTC Vive’s Room Scale tracking, which allows players to physically walk around VR environments, with the ability to quick teleport to visible areas in a level. The developer provides a number of optional layers to the system that will provide players with comfort at all times and allow them to accurately place a marker to arrive at.
VRFocus will continue to follow The Galley: Call of the Starseed closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the title.
