For this years 2015 US Tennis Open, tennis star Maria Sharapova has teamed up with American Express to create ‘You Vs Sharapova’, a virtual reality (VR) experience that visitors will be able to try out whilst attending the event.
For the ‘You Vs Sharapova’ experience, the tennis star has been motion captured to create a CGI version of herself for visitors to play against. Using a HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) and its motion tracking technology, Lighthouse, which can track players in a space up to 15 foot by 15 foot, US tennis Open attendees can experience a virtual version of playing against Sharapova on court. Fans will be able to try their hand at returning Sharapova’s shots with their own ground strokes and volleys, with the highlight testing fans returning skill against Sharapova’s over 100 mile-per-hour serve.
The 2015 US Tennis Open will run from the 31st August – 13th September 2015, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Queens, New York City. VRFocus will continue to report on all the latest VR news from around the world.
