Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) may have skipped its usual press conference at Gamescom this year, but the company has plenty of other events scheduled before 2015 is through. In late October fans can look forward to a press conference taking place in lieu of the Gamescom one at Paris Games Week (PGW), while the second ever PlayStation Experience fan event was recently confirmed to be returning in December with new announcements expected. But before either of those shows can take place the company will also be heading to the 2015 Tokyo Game Show in Japan. Today, SCE has dated its annual TGS press conference.
The event will take place on 15th September at 16:00 GMT+9/08:00 GMT+1. SCE’s Head of Worldwife Studios Shuhei Yoshida has already confirmed that the company will be showcasing new experiences for its Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4 at this year’s show. Last year’s event saw the reveal of a controversial new project from Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada named Summer Lesson. The demo was pulled from the TGS show floor, though later resurfaced with a new build at E3 2015.
Though confirmed for a launch in the first half of 2016, launch details for Project Morpheus such as a specific date and price are yet to be revealed. Could such information be announced at one of this year’s remaining shows? Right now it’s confirmed that the kit features a 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz display. This screen is capable of ‘reprojecting’ some compatible titles to display in 120fps when the title isn’t quite matching that framerate.
VRFocus will continue to follow Project Morpheus closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
