SIGGRAPH 2015: ‘The Light-Field Stereoscope: Immersive Computer Graphics via Factored Near-Eye Light -Field Displays With Focus Cues’ Liveblog

SIGGRAPH 2015 is now in full swing and virtual reality (VR) fans can look forward to a week of in-depth VR talks and demos. It all kicks off with a talk titled ‘The Light-Field Stereoscope: Immersive Computer Graphics via Factored Near-Eye Light -Field Displays With Focus Cues’. VRFocus is liveblogging the session below.

The talk is hosted by Fu-Chung Huang, Kevin Chen and Gordon Wetzstein, all of Standford University. “This practical, inexpensive solution for creating comfortable VR experiences that support all depth cues includes a near-eye stereoscopic light-field display that presents different 4D light fields to the eyes, creating correct or nearly correct retinal blur and the ability to freely focus within the scene,” an official description reads.
