The sci-fi idea of virtual reality has been used in countless books, films, TV series and cartoons. With virtual realities return to popular culture it’s no surprise that late night comedy and animation creator Adult Swim writing about the technology. In recent Rick and Morty episode – Mortynight Run, the duo arrive at Blipz and Chitz arcade. They end up on a VR arcade machine called Roy, which has players live the life of the title player.
The show which is created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, catalogues the bizarre misadventures of a bored scientific genius/drunkard and his socially awkward grandson, Morty. Their exploits tend to have unintended consequences for Morty’s dysfunctional family, especially his unfailingly mediocre father, Jerry.
For those that are unaware of Adult Swim, it is late-night home for animation and live-action comedy. With popular shows, including Robot Chicken, Venture Bros., Tim and Eric, Aqua Teen, Childrens Hospital, Delocated, Metalocalypse, Squidbillies, and more.
