Earlier this year a new Swedish studio by the name of Resolution Games released its debut virtual reality (VR) project in Solitaire Jester. Launched for the Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD), the title was the first of what the developer hoped will be many VR videogames. It now looks like those hopes are turning into realities, as Resolution Games has today announced the completion of a Series A round of funding, raising some $6 million USD. On top of that, the developer has also provided details on its next project.
Investors in Resolution Games include Google Ventures along with the likes of Creandum, Initial Capital, Bonnier Growth Media, and Partech Ventures. The company claims that this marks the largest investment for any VR developer yet seen. The studio has some 7 prototype experiences in the works right now, and the next full project will be an untitled fishing videogame. Details on the experience such as platforms are scarce right now, although the first screenshot of it can be seen above. It’s also confirmed that the title will be releasing in early 2016.
“We are thrilled to have the support of such high caliber thought leaders and VCs and to see they are confident in our team and strategy of making games everyone can enjoy,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “We’re focused on VR for the long run with nimble, small teams creating lots of new concepts, establishing best practices and quickly landing on successful titles to add content for emerging VR devices. To date we’ve already created seven prototype games, released our first title and are working on our next release, which will be a fishing themed VR game to be released in early 2016.”
VRFocus will continue to follow Resolution Games’ work in VR closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
