Kirkland, Washington-based studio Uber Entertainment is already diving into virtual reality (VR) development. Back at E3 2015 it was announced that Wayward Sky, its upcoming ‘look and click’ adventure title, would now be coming to the Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4 having originally been in development for the Gear VR mobile HMD. Now it’s been revealed that the team is also working on a VR experience for its popular real-time strategy (RTS) series, Planetary Annihilation.
The developer recently took to Twitter to confirm that it will be bringing both Wayward Sky and Planetary Annihilation: Titans to PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington this weekend. The latter is an updated version of the original title that launched back in 2014. Somewhat surprisingly, the same message also confirmed that the team will be showing a ‘TITANS VR Experience’ on Valve and HTC’s upcoming HMD, the HTC Vive. The experience will be on display at Booth #4139 on the show floor throughout the event from 28th – 31st August.
It’s not clear exactly what this experience will involve, although the ‘TITANS’ branding seems to confirm that it is related to the Planetary Annihilation series. It’s also telling that it’s only showing on the HTC Vive; is this experience going to be using SteamVR features such as Room Scale user tracking with which players can walk around an area of up to 15 feet by 15 feet and have those movements replicated within the given experience. More importantly, could this turn into another full VR project from the studio?
VRFocus will continue to follow Uber Entertainment’s work in VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates.
