It is highly likely you came into this new piece with visions of trundling around the Serengetti in a land rover. Occasionally stopping to peer out of the sunroof or windows using a pair of high powered binoculars at zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, giraffe, cheetah, lions, etc. However in this instance you would be wrong. Open Safari is neither hunting game nor animal caring simulation; in fact it has very little to with any established ‘Safari’ title.
Open Safari drops your custom made avatar in 144m squared of plains, forest and mountains which you can traverse either on foot or through free-form flight. There are animals such as elephants about, however your main interest comes from the very large video screen. Open Safari is infact another avatar based social interaction app and YouTube player. Currently only single player is available, although eventually you’ll be able to watch videos with other people, chat with them and travel across the game area with them.
Published by VRGist, the current version supports both the Oculus DK1 and DK2 head-mounted displays (HMDs). You can find video footage of it below:
VRFocus will continue to bring you new virtual reality (VR) items throughout the week, come back tomorrow for our final new item before the weekend.
