The week is flying by here at VRFocus, we’ve already had all manner of news items relating to virtual reality (VR) games, films, software, technology, industry and sports. Wednesday on New To VR though is time to take a look at Steam Greenlight and catch up with a title we’ve hitherto unmentioned.
Dead Acres is a game already greenlit by the Steam community that has plans to come to both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs). Developed by Glowstick Games, the title has a Minecraft-esque feel in terms of the graphics. However the premise is very different indeed. You are the owner of a tranquil farm full of fields that you populate with cows, chickens, pigs and sheep. Unfortunately for a reason best known to yourself you’ve decided to build your farm smack-dab in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Using an array of weapons at your disposal you must defend the farm from the undead horde… which if you’re not careful and any of your animals die will also include zombie cows, chickens, pigs and sheep.
There is still the business of running the farm of course, and selling your crops will enable you to build better defences. You’ll need to balance your time between slaying zombies and harvesting corn in order to be effective at both. You can see a Youtube trailer for the game below which will give you an idea as to the gameplay.
VRFocus will be back tomorrow with another new example of items coming to VR.
