This years Gamescom 2015 which is starting on Wednesday in Cologne, Germany, has announced the nominees for its awards and the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) has received a nomination in the Best Hardware (incl. Peripheral) category.
The awards are split into 17 categories, a total of 174 entries for the competition have been received, with the HTC Vive the only virtual reality (VR) product receiving a nomination. Once all the winners of the individual categories have been chosen the finalists are then entered into the coveted ‘Best of Gamescom’ category, and a winner is chosen by an expert panel of judges.
There is also a public award called ‘Gamescom Most Wanted Consumer’ award which the public can vote on through the official Gamescom app, from today. The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 7th August at 6pm CET, on the ‘Let’s Play Meets Gamescom’ stage, Hall 10.1.
VR should have a reasonable presence at the show this year with companies like Oculus VR, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and HTC attending. The HTC Vive World Tour truck is scheduled to be at the event.
Gamescom is considered the second biggest international trade event in the videogames industry’s annual calendar and VRFocus will be in attendance every day, reporting on all the latest direct from the show floor.
