Released this week using virtual reality (VR) 360 degree video is Foals newest single ‘Mountain At My Gates’ from the bands upcoming album What Went Down, the follow up to 2013’s Holy Fire.
Possibly the first music video shot in 360 degrees, the video was filmed using GoPro’s new Spherical virtual reality technology by director Nabil, who has collaborated with Foals on previous projects.
The 360 degree VR video can be viewed via a compatible browser and controlled with a mouse or the WASD keys, it can also be viewed on a smartphone with the YouTube app for the 360 degree experience. If you own a Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) you can view the video through the YouTube app for a more immersive experience.
GoPro cameras have already been used to make 360 degree videos by combining the cameras with special rigs, and this latest video sees GoPro itself become more directly connected with VR as the need for more content for VR devices increases.
What Went Down is the Foals’ fourth album and will be released on Friday 28th August. It’s already available to pre-order on the bands website.
VRFocus will continue to follow GoPro’s foray into VR and will report on any further announcements.
