Virtual reality (VR) is being used across lots of sporting leagues and disciplines as more uses are found for the technology. Whether its teams in the NFL using VR for training or recording matches in 360 degree VR video to enable fans to feel closer to the action. Red Bull has also seen the potential of VR for promotional use and has created a VR 360 degree preview of the up-coming Red Bull Air Race 2015 at Ascot.
The 360 degree experience is digitally rendered and a voice over is provided by two time Red Bull Air Race World Champion Paul Bonhomme as viewers are taken on a virtual flight around the Ascot circuit for the 2015 race. Experience what it’s like to be inside the cockpit of Bonhommes Edge 540 plane, pulling high G’s and ripping sharp turns around the technical track.
The 360 degree VR video can be viewed via a compatible browser and controlled with a mouse or the W,A,S,D keys. It can also be viewed on a smartphone with the YouTube app for the 360 degree experience. If you own a Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) you can view the video through the YouTube app for a more immersive experience.
The Red Bull Air Race is taking place this weekend (15th/16th August) and VRFocus will continue to report on all the latest news regarding VR technology in sport.
