Frontier Developments, the UK based developer behind virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulation videogame Elite: Dangerous has today announced a new season of major gameplay expansions called Elite: Dangerous Horizons.
Beginning later this year, Elite: Dangerous Horizons first expansion is ‘Planetary Landings‘ which introduces players to planet surfaces and the first all-new Surface Recon Vehicle (SRV) the ‘Scarab’. Players will be able to scan airless planets and moons to detect signals, crashed ships, mineral deposits, outposts and fortresses. Either alone or with friends players will explore, mine and engage hostile forces as they attempt to infiltrate strongholds guarding valuable rewards. Planetary Landings allows players to explore new worlds, flying over mountaintops, diving into canyons, landing on the surface and driving out onto the surface in your SRV, all without loading times or breaks in gameplay.
Elite Dangerous: Horizons will include all Elite: Dangerous content to date, and existing Elite: Dangerous players receive a £10 loyalty discount off the price of Elite Dangerous: Horizons.
Currently there is no confirmation from Frontier Horizons if the new expansion will support VR, but VRFocus will report back as soon as possible with confirmation.
