The HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) is only a few short months away from its consumer launch and the manufacturer is steadily gearing up for the event with an official announcement due in October. But the hardware needs virtual reality (VR) software developers to increase the HMD’s appeal and more are still jumping on board.
Tim Moelard who part of indie VR development team The Virtual Dutch Men, recently posted a teaser video on YouTube and Twitter for a new HTC Vive supporting title Planets made on the Unity engine.
Planets is a VR Experience for HMD in which the player can create their own room scale solar system. Using the Lighthouse motion tracking system and the HTC Vive motion controllers users will be able to move and position planets or change the colour of the sun however they choose.
As it’s still early days there’s only a few basic controls, and interaction is limited but the videogame shows interesting promise for keen astronimers or anyone with a fasination with space and the solar system. VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of Planets as more features are added and The Virtual Dutch Men release further details.
