Its not just videogame developers that are embracing virtual reality (VR) and 360 degree experiences. Filmmakers are jumping onboard to give consumers even more content to enjoy the latest head-mounted displays (HMD). Launching on Monday August 3rd 2015 is a new short film by Roddenbury Entertainment called White Room: 02B3 which uses a cutting edge 360 degree camera system to film the new movie.
White Room: 02B3 tells the story of six strangers who wake up in a white room to find out they are part of an extraordinary experiment that could change the face of humanity forever. The film places a 360 degree camera in the middle of a single-room set, which films all the actors at the same time, presenting a unique challenge for writers, producers, actors and the director. The script has to incorporate relevant information for characters that would normally be off camera, and every actor in the room has to be in character while the camera is rolling with no opportunities to cut until the end of a scene.
VRFocus spoke with Trevor Roth, COO of Roddenbury at Comic-Con 2015 to find out if White Room: 02B3 would be coming to VR HMD’s and the COO confirmed that the film is coming to Oculus Rift and Gear VR ‘shortly after’ the launch on tablets and smartphones on August 3rd. The film will also be available at dome theatres for audiences to enjoy.
It’ll be the first time a fully produced film will be presented in 360 degrees, giving viewers the chance to watch whichever actors scenes they want simply by looking around.
VRFocus will be following any more updates to White Room: 02B3 and from Roddenbury in the future.
