At the current San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2015 the virtual reality (VR) presence has seen a reasonable turnout, with the likes of the HTC Vive Live Tour and Roddenbury Entertainment’s White Room: 02B3 among others. Yesterday it was Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) turn with the Project Morpheus panel. Amongst the topics discussed were further details of Monster Escape, one of the videogames bundled in The Playroom VR collection.
In Monster Escape the player with the Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD) controls a giant dinosaur like monster, while four other players can join in on a TV or ‘social screen’ with DualShock controllers to defeat the monster. The player using the Project Morpheus HMD controls the monsters actions with head movements to smash buildings or dodge projectiles being thrown by the other players. Monster Escape shows SCE’s determination to prove VR can be a social experience rather than an isolating one, when done correctly.
The Playroom VR collection has already been confirmed as being a launch title for Project Morpheus and SCE have said that the final product is aiming for a least half a dozen videogames to be included.
VRFocus will be reporting on further updates to Monster Escape and The Playroom VR from SCE in the run up to next years launch.
