Last week VRFocus reported on the news that UK-based Opposable Games has launched a Steam Greenlight campaign for its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible tactical action videogame, Salvaged. The campaign was looking to raise enough positive votes in order to approve the title for sale on Steam itself. The effort has clear paid off; Salvaged has now passed the campaign in just a week of originally going online.
Salvaged casts players as Commander Alex Pieterson, a ‘salvager extraordinaire’ that orders a team of agents through alien-infested space ship wrecks as they search for, as the name suggests, salvage. In VR, this is done by placing players in a command room with three screens. One allows Pieterson to manage contracts and a tablet is used for issuing commands. The third screen shows the action unfold in full 3D environments in real time.
A non-VR version of the title will also be arriving, with players able to instead use a real tablet to instruct their squads. A single-screen option is also possible.
Opposable Games celebrated its success on Twitter. Salvaged is currently planned for a launch in Steam Early Access in the near future, though a specific date has not yet been announced. It’s also not yet clear if the title could come to other HMDs such as the HTC Vive further down the line.
VRFocus will continue to follow Salvaged closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
