Resolution Games, a new indie developer based in Stockholm, Sweden, is moving fast with its work in virtual reality (VR). Having been set up a few months ago after CEO Tommy Palm left his position at Candy Crush Saga studio King Digital Entertainment, the team is almost ready to ship its first project. That project is Solitaire Jester, a new experience that adapts the classic card game to play on the Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD). Resolution Games has much more planned for VR though, with 2 new titles soon to enter production.
Palm revealed as much to VRFocus in an interview that will be published in full later on in the week. He also confirmed that Resolution Games currently has a total of 6 prototypes in the works for VR. “So previously I worked at King. I left King in January,” Palm explained. “So we’re only five months in in our very young company history but we’ve been doing a lot of experiments and we’ve so far made six game prototypes and, after we’re finished with Solitaire, we’ll start the production of two new games.”
Palm didn’t confirm any specifics about these two new titles, nor what platforms they may be launching on. Solitaire Jester is expected to launch on Gear VR in the near future. Based in a cosy study environment, the title simply allows players to take on the classic game using only gaze-based controls. VRFocus went hands-on with the title at E3 2015 and found this approach opened up a competent adaption of the game to a whole new audience.
VRFocus will continue to follow Resolution Games’ work in VR closely, reporting back with any further updates.
