Back in May of this year VRFocus reported on the collaboration between Rapid VR, Qantas and Hamilton Island that would allow passengers on Qantas flights a unique in-flight virtual reality (VR) experience. Following the debut of this programme last month, Rapid VR has confirmed that Samsung Gear VR owners around the world will soon be able to download the Great Barrier Reef Experience for themselves.
“We are incredibly proud of the content we captured for one of the most iconic experiences and destinations in the world – and equally proud to be at the forefront, pushing the boundaries of a growing industry,” said Susannah DiLallo, Executive Producer at Rapid VR. “Virtual reality is a game changer in the worlds of film and marketing. It is moving into the mainstream as more brands see the value in embracing technology and opportunities to create and share truly immersive content that makes you feel as if you are truly there.”
Qantas is currently showcasing the film and Samsung Gear VR headsets with Galaxy Note 4 smartphones in its First Class Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne as well as on select Airbus A380 flights between Australia and Los Angeles in the First Class cabin. It is also available for online streaming via YouTube (see below) and 360 video site Vrideo, and will soon launch as an app via the Gear VR’s Oculus Home, as well as Android and iOS devices viewable via a VR head-mounted display (HMD). VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Rapid VR’s work in the field of VR and other apps coming to the Gear VR HMD.
