Whilst virtual reality (VR) has existed in various forms over the last couple of decades, nobody can really deny that the current re-emergence of VR has been down to one man, Palmer Luckey. He created the Oculus Rift at home, then in 2012 started a Kickstarter campaign that launched the head-mounted display (HMD) on to the world stage and the rest is history. At the Develop Industry Excellence Awards 2015 today, Oculus VR won the Technology Provider category for the accomplishments the company and Lucky has achieved.
Oculus VR was up against some stiff competition from the likes of: ARM; Dimensional Imaging; Imagination Technologies; Intel; Multiplay; Nvidia and SoftLayer Technologies for the award.
The Develop Awards have been revamped this year, split into three categories: Creativity, Studio and Tech & Services. Due to the flood of nominations this year, new and updated categories make up for a total of 20 awards. Technology Provider is one of those new awards and is for firms that offer hardware and technological support to developers.
VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus VR and the company’s latest announcements in the future.
