With E3 2015 now out of the way, many virtual reality (VR) fans will be looking to Gamescom in early August 2015 for their next update on the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and its compatible videogames. Oculus VR has already confirmed that it will be at the event in Cologne, Germany from 5th – 9th August, hopefully with brand new content to share. Fans in Japan won’t have to wait that long, however, as the company has recently announced that it will be exhibiting at the Bitsummit 2015 Indie Game Festival in Kyoto.
Bitsummit 2015 takes place on both 11th and 12th July at the Kyoto International Exhibition Hall. Oculus VR confirmed its presence at this year’s show in a recent tweet and has even been revealed as one of the sponsors for the event alongside the likes of Steam, PlayStation and Xbox One. The company has not yet confirmed what hardware and videogames it will be showing at its booth but, hopefully, this will be the first chance for some of the general public to go hands-on with the consumer version of the Oculus Rift.
That retail edition is set to launch in the first quarter of next year, though details such as pricing are yet to be revealed. Bitsummit isn’t likely to be a show in which Oculus VR reveals any of these details. For that, fans will likely have to wait until the return of the Oculus Connect developer conference, which is running from 23rd – 25th September 2015 in Hollywood, California. Perhaps, though, fans can look forward to playing some of the newly-announced VR videogames such as Gunfire Games’ Chronos and Insomniac Games’ Edge of Nowhere.
VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus VR and its work with the Oculus Rift closely, reporting back with any further updates.
