Virtual reality (VR) companies are courting big name Hollywood directors like Steven Spielberg and Guillermo del Toro to produce content for VR devices, to help promote the technology to consumers outside of the videogame sphere. Now Neill Blomkamp has made his interest in VR known via twitter today.
Blomkamp took to twitter to voice his distain for 3D films but enthused his love of VR: “k, I officially cannot stand 3d. hate it. VR, absolutely love, AR, interesting. 3d films, can’t stand.” The director then took to twitter again to reinforce his first statement by adding: “3d virtual environments in VR where you have control of frame rates, you are positioned correctly 100% of the time and its interactive = rad”
So with Blomkamp obviously keen on VR and the open to the possibilities of augmented reality (AR) as entertainment mediums, could the option of the director bringing his own style of filmmaking to head-mounted displays (HMD) be plausable?
With sci-fi films like District 9, Chappie under his belt Elysium, and a new Alien reboot on the way, Blomkamp is certainly a director many would like to see turn his hand to VR in the future.
