Yesterday it was revealed the Reload Studios, the virtual reality (VR) developer currently working on the anticipated World War Toons, had received some $2 million USD in investment from World Innovation Lab (WiL). The developer, which will only celebrate is one year anniversary in July 2015, will use these funds to help push work on its title as well as other, unannounced projects. In fact, it’s also been revealed that, outside of World War Toons, Reload Studios has another two titles in development at this point in time.
The press release announcing the investment deal also confirmed that ‘Reload currently has three internal projects in various stages of development’. Given that World War Toons is the only one of these projects to be announced and even had hands-on events take place, it’s fair to assume that this is the title furthest along in production right now. Just what these other titles are remains a mystery at this point in time. That said, Reload Studios’ position as a VR developer means that these are almost certainly videogames that VRFocus will follow.
World War Toons itself is a cartoon-esque first-person shooter (FPS) that, as the name suggests, allows players to take part in World War 2-era combat. The videogame places a huge emphasis on multiplayer, taking on board the experience gained from the developer’s past roles working on the likes of the Call of Duty series. It’s not yet confirmed which head-mounted displays (HMDs) the title will be released on, though it was first seen being played using the second development kit (DK2) for the Oculus Rift. Reload Studios will be taking the title to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) later this month to show it to the press.
VRFocus will continue to follow both World War Toons and Reload Studios’ other projects closely, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
