Earlier in the month VRFocus reported on the launch of a brand new Steam Greenlight campaign for a virtual reality (VR) title by the name of Warhawks: European Theatre. Developed by Ghost Machine VR, the Austin, Texas-based studio that’s working on a number of new VR projects, the title hoped to raise enough positive votes to be approved for sale on Steam come full launch. Less than two weeks after that campaign’s launch, Warhawks: European Theatre has been approved for sale.
Already available in Alpha form, the title allows players to pilot an aircraft in some of the famous battles of World War 2, across maps that have been created using real satellite scans with geographic data. Players will be able to receive briefings on missions in a war room before heading out to battle over European villages. The Alpha version of the title costs $4.95 USD and features full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display’s (HMDs) second development kit, though the full version plans to support the HTC Vive as well.
It’s not year clear when Ghost Machine VR plans to launch the full version of Warhawks: European Theatre. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
