2015 has marked some big changes for the Virtual Reality Los Angeles (VRLA) event. Rather than simple meetups as seen in other cities, the group has this year moved to an ambitious plan with four expos, one for each season. The VRLA Spring Expo was a big success, taking place on 22nd March 2015 at the Marriott Hotel. A long list of exhibitors included the likes of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) with its Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD). The Summer Expo is set to expand even further, today announcing its date, launching tickets and even confirming a brand new venue.
The VRLA Summer Expo, organised by the Virtual Reality Foundation, will take place on 29th August 2015, this time hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Center. As videogame fans will know, this is also the venue used almost year-in, year-out for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which will this year run from 16th – 18th June. “VRLA started as my side project to bring together virtual reality enthusiasts like me, ” said Cosmo Scharf, Co-Founder, VRLA. “We’re proud to have been in on the ground floor of the VR industry, and to provide a home for the latest innovations.”
Tickets for the event are available through VRLA’s official website.
At the same time, the Virtual Reality Foundation has also announced a date for the 2015 Proto Awards at AVALON Hollywood. Now in its second year, the event looks to celebrate achievements in VR and will take place on 22nd September. A number of categories will feature at this year’s show, including Best Social Experience, Most Transportive and Best Gameplay. Also new to the 2015 edition are categories that recognise Independent, Educational and Student work. The event will be presented by AMD.
The submissions process opens today and those interested can head to the event’s website to find out more. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR related events, reporting back with the latest on them.
