Those that have followed VRFocus over the course of the past year will have likely heard of Faceted Flight, the virtual reality (VR) compatible, stunt-based flight videogame. With a demo for the title launched in 2014, developer Matthew Scott, who has experience at both Oddworld Inhabitants and Valve, and his team at The Department of Silly Stuff passed a Steam Greenlight campaign back in March 2015. With these two milestones now passed, the team has launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for Faceted Flight, hoping to raise $50,000 USD to aid development of the upcoming videogame by 3rd July 2015.
Described as a spiritual successor to popular fantasy flight titles such as Star Fox, X-Wing and even the Wipeout racing videogames, Faceted Flight fully supports both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift head-mounted displays (HMDs). Players will pilot an aircraft across one of five airfields in different modes that include Racing, Ring Attack, and Exploration. Multiplayer will also be on offer, allowing players to meet up with friends online and take part in these modes together. Each airfield represents a completely different environment such as a forest, a gorge, islands and more.
Faceted Flight also boasts an unmistakeable art style, mixing bright colours with a retro sci-fi appeal.
Those interested in the title can currently pledge $10 to secure a digital copy of the title for its launch in November 2015. This is a limited tier available to the first 1000 backers, with the price increasing to $15 afterwards. Backer rewards continue all the way up to $5,000, where two fans can have the developers fly out to meet them with their VR gear. A number of stretch goals are also listed, teasing the inclusion of features such as flying to the moon from an airfield for a goal of $100,000.
