VR Jam Spotlight: Androids Dream Places Users in a VR Blade Runner
Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is easily one of the most iconic sci-fi universes to ever be depicted in film. The piece is of course based on American writer Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? This title also serves as one of the entries into Oculus VR’s Mobile VR Jam. Indie developer Dony Tamazone has created a new entry into the apps of experiences category of the competition with a short film based on the Blade Runner universe named Androids Dream for the Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD).
The experience is designed to immerse players in the neo-urban vision of 2019 Los Angeles, first seen in the 1982 movie. Viewers are seated inside a flying car and speeds around the environment. Those interested can sample the piece for themselves by downloading the APK on Gear VR, which is available from the official entry page. Footage from the title can also be seen below.
Though not one of the finalists for the VR Jam, Androids Dream is still in the running for a community voted award of $10,000 USD. Fans were able to select their personal favourite entries towards the end of May 2015, with winners expected to be announced later this week.
VRFocus will continue to follow any and all entrants into the Mobile VR Jam, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
