It’s just a few weeks until Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) provides an update on its anticipated virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), Project Morpheus, at E3 2015. The company will likely provide further insight into the device during its press conference on 15th June. Before that can happen, however, SCE is giving PlayStation fans the chance to sample Project Morpheus itself along with a wide range of PlayStation 4 titles at the UEFA Champions Festival at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany from 4th to 7th June.
SCE will have a booth at the festival containing a number of its recently released titles along with some soon to launch ones too. The list includes the likes of Big Fest, Bloodborne, Helldivers and Until Dawn. There will also be a time trial pod for Gran Turismo 6 and a stand to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2015. For those looking to get their heads on Project Morpheus, however, they will need to bring proof of a subscription to PlayStation Plus, SCE’s online service, to be in with a chance of sampling the device. This will also enter them into a competition to win tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final between Juventus Football Club and FC Barcelona at the Olympiastadion.
Having been revealed in 2014, Project Morpheus was reintroduced at the 2015 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March as an updated prototype with a 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. While compatible videogames may not run at 120 fps themselves, the device is able to ‘reproject’ images to make them appear as if they are. SCE has revealed that the consumer version of the kit will be launching in the first half of 2016, pitting it just behind the holiday 2015 launch of the HTC Vive and likely later than the Q1 2016 launch of the Oculus Rift.
VRFocus will continue to follow Project Morpheus closely, reporting back with any further updates on the kit.
