PlayHubs Hosting London HTC Vive Game Jam Next Month

Last month saw PlayHubs host a hugely successful virtual reality (VR) Meetup that featured the likes of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), Climax Studios and nDreams talking about the technology. Less than two months on from the London-based event and another VR-focused Meetup is set to take place. However, instead of a simple get together with talks and demos, the next PlayHubs VR event will in fact be a new development jam focusing on the newest VR head-mounted display (HMD), Valve and HTC’s Vive.

The Vive VR Game Jam is set to take place from 11th – 12th July 2015 at Somerset House, with a show and tell session set for 13th July. The event is being hosted by Valve itself with the help of Bossa Studios, the UK-based developer behind the likes of Surgeon Simulator and one of the few teams to have had access to the HTC Vive before its developer edition was released. The Jam is set to last for 36 hours, starting at 08:00 GMT on the 11th and coming to a close at 20:00 on the 12th. It is designed for experience VR developers that already known how to work with the technology.

Team sizes for the jam will range between 2 – 5 people, with around 50 developers allowed in. Hopefuls will have to bring their own laptop. HTC Vive units will be present, though may not meet the demand for one for each team, thus developers may have to share during the competition. The show and tell session is likely to get underway at 16:00 and run until 20:00. Those looking to sign up should head to an official Meetup page.

This isn’t the first Vive VR Jam to take place. Earlier in the year Owlchemy Labs, another studio that had been working with the device before its reveal, hosted a similar competition in the US. Though arriving to developers for free throughout the summer, the device is expected to launch as a full consumer product towards the end of the year.

VRFocus will continue to follow the HTC Vive closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
