Oculus VR’s Herobound Coming to Rift, App Suggests

Earlier in the year Oculus VR teamed up with Gunfire Games, the developer of the recently revealed Chronos, to release a sequel to its virtual reality (VR) dungeon crawling experience, Herobound: First Steps, for the Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD). Titled Herobound: Spirit Champion, the sequel also arrived on Gear VR and expanded on the original, which had only arrived a few months earlier as part of the launch line-up for the device. Now it appears that Herobound: Spirit Champion is also on its way to the Oculus Rift HMD.

The official Oculus Live app currently contains a list of videogames that will be showcased at the company’s booth at E3 2015 in Los Angeles, California from 16th – 18th June 2015. Clearly listed under the Oculus Rift section is Herobound: Spirit Champion. It could be that this is a simple mistake, although the title is also listed under the Gear VR section and there doesn’t seem to be any reason why the title couldn’t appear on the Oculus Rift, which saw a huge blowout on compatible videogames at its pre-E3 show last week.

Herobound: Spirit Champion allows players to choose their own avatar and then set off to explore four realms in which they must free captured spirits. Once rescued, these spirits will grant the player with new powers which they must gather in order to become strong enough to defeat the Spirit of Fire. It originally released for free on Gear VR; could it also be a free title for the Oculus Rift? The device is set to ship with an Xbox One controller, which will likely be the ideal way to control the title.

VRFocus will continue to follow Herobound: Spirit Champion, reporting back with the latest updates on the title.
