Whenever you see the word ‘Tron’ as part of a videogame’s name you naturally think it has something to do with classic 1982 Disney film about videogames, computers and in the case of the MCP the danger of a computer that can think and indeed act for itself. Of course most of the time this is not the case, but with new virtual reality (VR) videogame Vektron Revenge there is some piece of common ground and maybe even a little with Captain N.
Vektron Revenge’s story begins as your character comes across an old arcade machine, and on closer inspection, you get pulled into the action quite literally as you’re sucked through the screen into a world of bright colours and polygonal enemies. At that point game play begins as you engage in a classic arcade-style battle for survival: three lives, no continues, make the biggest score you can. It is up to you to manoeuvre your automatically firing ship around the field of play through head movements, collecting power-ups and dishing out destruction.
Originally developed by Ludovic Texier as a Gear VR submission for the recent Oculus Mobile VR Jam, Vektron Revenge is now available to play on both the Oculus Rift DK1 and DK2 head-mounted displays (HMDs) and is downloadable from the Oculus VR Share platform.
VRFocus will continue to bring you a regular dose of new videogames, experiences and apps that are available for you to try in VR.
