KO-OP Announces GNOG for Project Morpheus

E3 is now less than two weeks away and sure to hold a wide range of new virtual reality (VR) videogames. But that isn’t stopping developers from announcing new titles right now. A studio by the name of KO-OP has just announced a brand new puzzle-based title named GNOG, which is on its way to the Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD) on PlayStation 4 in 2016. The first trailer for the title can be seen below.

Made possible by the Sony Pub Fund program and part of the ‘Double Fine Presents’ label, GNOG is a surreal experience set in a universe that’s comprised of monster heads. Each of these monsters holds a whole micro-world on its back, with players flipping between these two sides to solve challenges. The developer is working closely with Double Fine itself, who has experimented with VR before, as it helps with production and offers design feedback.

KO-OP cites titles such as Windosill and FEZ as inspirations for GNOG. The team is comprised of just four people and has been working on the title for a year, having started out as a 2d platformer. It’s currently not clear if the videogame will also be appearing on other HMDs such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on PC. More on the title, such as a look at its unique art direction and design, is set to be revealed over the coming weeks and months.

Project Morpheus itself is set to play a big part at E3, having been reintroduced at the 2015 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March. The kit boasts a 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and is due to launch in the first half of 2016. Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE)’s E3 press conference is scheduled for 15th June, so expect to hear much more on the device around this time.
