For the past three years virtual reality (VR) fans have excitedly discussed the arrival of AAA developers in the space. Indie developers have done an incredible job of supporting the technology thus far, but many hope to see what some larger studios are capable of. A first glimpse of that was seen last week when Insomniac Games, the team behind the likes of Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank and more, debuted Edge of Nowhere for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). VRFocus recently spoke to the developer about the title.
In the talk below, Creative Director Brian Allgeier chats about how the studio came to work in VR with a little help from Oculus VR’s Jason Rubin. He also discusses exactly what the technology can do for the horror-action experience, which takes the form of a third-person title set amongst snowy peaks and dark caverns. Edge of Nowhere is aiming to release next year for the Oculus Rift, though it’s unclear if it will join the device in its Q1 2016 launch period.
VRFocus will continue to follow Edge of Nowhere closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
